Prevent your Horse from Slipping - Additional Grip thanks to Integrated Screw Threads for Studs
You are looking for a horseshoe that is shock-absorbing and thus gentle on the joints, that restricts the movement of the hoof capsule and the Hoof mechanism as little as possible and at the same time offers additional protection against slipping? Then our clipped and threaded is the ideal choice, as it allows you to add two screw studs for enhanced anti-slip protection. The two integrated screw threads in the heel area are suitable for our M8 anti-slide studs with disk. While this horseshoe with screw threads is only used by a few in the summer, it is a popular model in the winter months.
- The softer synthetic material of the Standard models remains flexible and preserves its shock-absorbing properties even in the cold season.
- The integrated debris guard is similar to a snow insert on stel horseshoes and thus largely prevents snow from balling up .
- The screw inserts in the heel area are suitable for our 4mm and 6mm anti-slide screw studs with disk. Please observe the separate safety instructions for the use of our horseshoes with screw studs.
- Spikes can also be used for additonal anti-slide protection.
The Danger of Slipping during the Winter Horse Riding Season
Admiring the white beauty from the saddle... Riding a horse through a seemingly enchanted forest or galloping across a snow-covered meadow... This is how many riders often imagine the winter horse riding season. But what seems so tempting involves many risks. No matter what you prefer in winter - be it the steel horseshoe with Snowgrip®, hoof boots, pure plastic shoes or our composite shoe - it is always important that horse and rider are safe on the road!
Particularly in winter, it is important to ensure sufficient protection against slipping and to judge the risk correctly. This risk judgment is always at the discretion of the rider. In winter, we generally recommend choosing additional anti-slide protection in the form of a deeper tread pattern, spikes or even studs and reducing the speed accordingly.
Please always remember that it can quickly become slippery. Especially in winter, there are dangerous situations that are difficult to predict. It is just like in normal road traffic: You must always be very careful and expect that even with winter tires it can become slippery. The same applies to horse riding - not only, but especially also when you go for a ride in winter.
We try to give you the best possible support with our products. Nevertheless, especially in winter, you must always adapt your speed to the ground and weather conditions in order to prevent accidents as best as possible.

Our models with quarter clips and screw threads for studs can also be combined with wedges .
Additional anti-slide protection may be needed all year round, depending on the region and riding discipline.
Especially in winter, our clipped and threaded horseshoe for anti-slide studs is a popular choice.
When using studs, you have to pay attention to the correct position of the screw threads on the hoof.
You can buy 4mm and 6mm anti-slide studs with disk for additional protection against slipping.
Since the need for anti-slip protection varies by riding discipline and region and may be required throughout the year, this horseshoe is offered in two hardness grades: Standard and Extra.
Our range includes clipped and threaded shoes in round and oval designs, along with a straight toe version (STS).
For additional anti-slip protection, this horseshoe can also be fitted with spikes.
The screw threads in the heel area are designed for use with our M8 anti-slip screw studs.
Application and Safety Instructions – Fit, Thread Position, and Suitable Studs – VIDEO
Whether you require a shock-absorbing shoe with maximum slip resistance due to your riding discipline or are looking for an alternative hoof protection for the winter months, certain aspects must be given special consideration as soon as studs are used. To protect the horse’s health and ensure the stability of the horseshoe, several fundamental conditions must be strictly observed when using studs.
The softer material along with the rounded edges reduces the risk of injuries in a herd situation compared to a metal horseshoe. There are fewer injuries with it; however, injuries can never be completely excluded, in particular when using studs.
As a horse owner, you need to check not only the correct and secure fit of the shoe but also the studs daily and before each use of the horse. Especially with rather aggressive horses, studs can be a risk in a herd situation. If you are a horse owner in a livery stable, please coordinate the use of spikes and studs with the owner of the stable.
Please also refer to our safety instructions regarding the use of studs.
Fit and Correct Placement on the Hoof
You must ensure that you choose the correct size of the horseshoe and that the shoe is optimally fitted to the hoof so that the screw threads are positioned in the right place. Incorrect positioning of the threads may lead to the hoof being pressurized and may have a negative impact on the stability of the screw thread within the synthetic material. Damage to the horseshoe and, in extreme cases, a levered out thread insert can be a possible result.
The correct position of the screw inserts is in the heel area. If the threaded inserts are located too far back, the risk of the horse losing the shoe increases. In extreme cases, the rear section of the shoe may be completely torn away due to the leverage effect . One customer told us about such a case. In this particular situation, the position of the screw threads was completely wrong since they were located far behind the heels.
The Most Suitable Stud
Choose the ideal stud height depending on the ground conditions and the intended use of the horse. From our point of view the optimal stud for this horseshoe is the 4mm stud with disk, the 6mm stud should only be used if the ground conditions allow it, e.g. if there is an appropriate snow cover. If you use higher studs on your own responsibility, the risk of levering the thread insert out of its position increases.
Our Anti-Silde Studs With Disk – the Best Choice for Your Winter Horseshoe:
Like our horseshoes, our studs are made in Germany. In contrast to many other studs available on the market, our studs are hardened . The key feature of our anti-slide studs is the disk. This primarily serves the better distribution of the pressure - on the one hand in relation to the punctual pressure on the hoof, on the other hand in relation to the stability of the integrated screw thread.
Please note our general instructions for the use of studs. We know that there are various M8 studs on the market and would therefore like to point out that the use of our shoes with studs from other manufacturers is at the sole discretion of the farrier and/or horse owner.
Permanent Stud Application
Ensure that the studs can remain permanently in the shoe once installed, as the threads in the plastic are not designed for regular stud changes. During shoeing, however, the threads can initially be kept clean using stud blanks until the studs are to be installed. The model is not intended for repeated screwing in and out of studs.
Screw Retention for a Secure Hold of the Studs
If the studs are intended to remain permanently in the shoe, the use of a screw retention or a drop of superglue on the threads is recommended to improve retention.
Stud Monitoring During the Shoeing Period
During the shoeing period, you must check not only the proper fit and undamaged condition of the horseshoe and quarter clips as usual, but also the studs and the integrated screw threads A slanted stud or integrated screw thread, for example, is an indication that the fit of the integrated screw thread is no longer optimal.
Shoeing Instructions - Nailed Hoof Protection
No matter what model you use, you need the necessary knowledge about the correct application.
In our short video tutorial , Stephan Becker demonstrates the nailed application of our shoes. Information on using the shoe as a glue-on shoe can be found in the FAQ → Instructions section.
If you want to equip a horseshoe with studs, it is especially important to choose the right shape and size of the shoe. You must make sure that the screw thread is positioned in the right place on the hoof.

|---|---|
| Plastic Coating | The soft plastic coating has a shock-absorbing effect. The bar made of plastic material can improve the blood circulation of the hoof. |
| Hoof Mechanism | The flexible synthetic material encourages the mobility of the elastic hoof structures. |
| Sole Area | The open sole design offers breathability to the hoof
sole
and the frog
. The molded synthetic lip, acts like a debris guard. It helps to reduce the amount of snow and debris balling up . |
| Grip | For additional grip, you can use M8 traction studs with collar (4 mm, 6 mm) and/or
spikes. In the Nordic countries, Nordic studs can also be used under suitable ground conditions. Always adjust riding speed according to the ground conditions, especially on slippery surfaces. |
| Knobs | The knobs are impressed into the weight-bearing surface of the hoof wall and help the
nail-on horseshoe keep its position on the hoof. When used as a cast or glue-on shoe, the knobs must be ground down before attaching the cast hooks or before plastic-welding the glue-on tabs to the shoe. |
| Metal Core | The metal core enhances durability and helps avoid unwanted pressure on the hoof. |
| Nailing Slots | The shoe features 6 to 8 nailing slots integrated into the metal core, depending on
size.
The optimal nail size varies by hoof condition and size. You’ll find general recommendations in our shop under hoof nails. |
| Quarter Clips | Quarter clips make nailing easier and help prevent the horseshoe from twisting or slipping
during the regular shoeing period. Be careful to adjust the quarter clips to the hoof angle when shoeing. |
| Shoeing and Customization | |

| Therapy Shoe / Rehab | The model is also suitable for supportive use in the orthopedic and therapeutic field. We expressly point out that our products do not diagnose or cure any diseases and advise for any use with a therapeutic or orthopedic background to work closely with the hoof specialist or veterinarian on site. |
| Customization | Always fit the horseshoe individually to the hoof shape – use an angle grinder, belt
grinder,
hoof nippers, or toeing knife. Advanced modifications (at your own discretion) are possible: narrow, widen, lengthen the shoe or close the sole area; you may also bend or grind a Toe Rocker . We strongly advise against using the Extensions to widen or lengthen the horseshoe, as this can negatively affect the position of the studs and may lead to unwanted pressure on sensitive areas of the hoof. | Risk of Injuries in Herds | minimized risk of injuries in herd situations and in case of irregular movements in comparison to a steel shoe or the sharp-edged border of a bare hoof - please also read our safety information; the quarter clips must be monitored. |
| Studs | The use of studs increases the risk of injuries. Please observe the additional information regarding stud use in our safety guidelines. |
| Threaded Inserts Embedded in the Plastic Coating | Repeated insertion and removal of the studs, as well as the accumulation of dirt in the stud holes, can impair the stability of the threaded inserts. When no studs are used, always protect the stud holes with stud blanks. Avoid repeated stud changes and only use our anti-slip studs with disc to ensure optimal pressure distribution. |
Tips & Tricks:
Keep the Integraded Screw Thread Clean until Winter sets in
If the farrier visit is scheduled before the first snowfall and studs are not yet required, stud blanks must be used. They protect the threaded holes from contamination and can easily be replaced with the appropriate studs once winter conditions begin.
You can buy stud blanks and studs in our online shop.
Please note, however, that this horseshoe is not suitable for switching several times between stud blanks and studs. For this purpose, you need a horsehoe in which the screw threads are firmly embedded in the metal core.
Winter Horseshow with Closed Sole Area
The integrated debris guard significantly reduces the risk of dangerous snow balling under the hoof. However, no guarantee can be given that snow accumulation can be completely prevented at all times. Whether snow balling occurs depends on various factors, including the curvature of the hoof sole, ambient temperature, and the condition of the snow.
Especially in very wet or slushy snow that easily accumulates under the horseshoe and subsequently freezes, it may be advisable to fully close the sole area for the winter season.
Our Hoof Sole Protector is particularly well suited for this purpose. Select the appropriate size and shape to match the horseshoe and weld it into the shoe using hot air.
Horseshoes for a Regular Stud Change
Our clipped and threaded horseshoes without ring-shaped metal inlay are not designed for a regular stud change. If you are looking for a horseshoe that allows you to regularly switch between studs and stud blanks, we recommend a horseshoe with ring-shaped metal inlay. The screw threads of these models are firmly embedded in the metal core. Our models with ring-shaped metal inlay (similar to a heartbar shoe) and solid thread inserts are:
- The Jumper with four solid thread inserts - two in the toe area and two in the heel area.
- Our clipped and threaded Straight Toe Shoe with ring-shaped metal inlay and two solid thread inserts in the heel area.
- The Heavy Duty Shoes Traction with four solid thread inserts - two in the toe area and two in the heel area.
- if needed the special model - the open-toed horseshoe with quarter clips and two solid thread inserts in the heel area.
