Custom Fitting of the Horseshoe — For Optimal Hoof Protection

When it comes to horseshoes, most people picture the traditional farrier at work — shaping a steel shoe on the anvil with a forging hammer. At first glance, this image might not seem to match our composite horseshoes with a plastic coating — or does it?

Four-part image – The farrier narrows a composite horseshoe with a forging hammer, widens it using a vise and tongs, and shapes it to the hoof using a belt grinder.

We believe this image isn’t entirely wrong, even when it comes to our horseshoes. After all, in both cases – with traditional steel shoes and with our horseshoes – the farrier's goal is to ensure the horseshoe fits the horse's hoof as precisely as possible.

Thanks to their solid metal core, our composite horseshoes can also be adjusted — either narrowed or widened — with some skilled craftsmanship. After choosing the right shape and size, a final touch with a belt grinder or a slight adjustment using a forging hammer is often all it takes. For cases where more extensive modifications are necessary to perfectly adapt the horseshoes to the hoof, you’ll find the right accessories here.

To extend or widen the horseshoes, you can add weld-on bars (so-called extensions) — just like with traditional steel shoes. This works with models both with and without a metal core. Additionally, the sole area on both versions can be sealed using the Hoof Sole Protector or MESH from glue-u. Our accessories also include wedges, in case an adjustment to the hoof angle is needed.

We’re doing our best to dispel the myth that our horseshoes can’t be adapted to the hoof — and we’re going one step further: In most cases, our alternative horseshoes need some level of customization to properly fit the hoof. Even though our range includes 4 shapes, around 20 models, and 36 sizes, very few hooves are suited to a 'straight out of the box' horseshoe. Most hooves require manual adjustments to the horseshoes — no matter what material they’re made of.
