PrecisionBits – for Screwing In and Out Hexagon Socket Stud Blanks
Our range includes two types of stud holes: those that are firmly anchored in the metal core of the Straight Bar Shoes , which are suitable for regular stud changes, and those that are only anchored in the plastic. The latter are not suitable for regular stud changes.
Both types have one thing in common – when not using studs, the stud hole should be protected from dirt buildup with a stud blank . For this, plastic closure plugs or metal hex socket set screws are suitable options. To screw in and out the hex socket set screw, you need the appropriate internal hex bit insert. For this purpose, we offer PrecisionBits from Swiss Tools in our range.
Our regular models, where the threaded inserts are anchored in the plastic, all have an M8 thread; this means you need an M8 internal hex threaded plug and the 4 mm PrecisionBit.
The special model, the Clipped and Threaded Heavy Duty Shoe with thread, has a different threaded insert depending on the size. The same applies to the Straight Bar models (Jumper , Traction , and the Clipped and Threaded open-toed horseshoe ). Please check the thread size specified for each product when using these horseshoes.
The 5 mm HEX PrecisionBit is suitable for M10 internal hex threaded plugs; the 6 mm HEX bit insert fits M12 and M14 threaded plugs.
All bit inserts can be used with the bit holder available from us or with a cordless screwdriver that has a compatible bit holder.

Application and Safety Instructions When Working with PrecisionBits
In the section FAQ → Safety we have compiled all the necessary safety precautions when working with various tools.
AWorking with the Internal Hex Bit Insert
If you want to remove the internal hex threaded plug from the stud hole on an already shod hoof using a cordless screwdriver, first make sure that the horse is comfortable with the sound of the power tool. Follow all standard safety procedures when working around horses and wear personal protective equipment suitable for the task at hand. There is always a risk of slipping or having small fragments fly toward you during this kind of work.
Only use compatible bit inserts with your tools and make sure the PrecisionBit is securely locked into the tool to avoid injuries caused by slipping or loose or falling bit inserts. Check both the PrecisionBit and the cordless screwdriver or bit holder for damage before each use, and only use the tools if they are in perfect working condition.
