Different hoof conditions require different solutions. That's why our range includes hoof packing and pad materials for various applications – from putty-like and pour-in materials in different hardness levels to Magic Cushion® with antiseptic properties. We also offer hoof repair materials for repairing and reconstructing damaged hoof horn and treating hoof cracks.
Depending on the material and type, these products differ in their properties, application methods and intended uses. Each option has its own specific advantages and limitations. The hoof care professional determines which type of material and hardness level are suitable for the individual hoof and intended application based on the conditions on site.
Combining Hoof Packing Materials with Duplo Horseshoes
As the manufacturer, we would like to offer some guidance on which combinations we would generally consider based on our experience. This overview is intended as a guideline only and may not apply to every situation.
Our approach is simple: Better safe than sorry. The actual retention of the material always depends on the individual hoof conditions and external factors. As the hoof care professional working directly with the horse, you are in the best position to determine which combination is suitable for the particular hoof and intended application.

Notes
- Magic Cushion® was originally developed as a hoof packing for overworked and overheated hooves, but it can also be used as part of a shoeing solution. Based on our experience, we recommend combining Magic Cushion® with sheep's wool for this purpose, regardless of the type of horseshoe. The sheep's wool helps to compact the hoof packing, giving it a firmer consistency and improving its retention in the intended area. Due to its consistency, Magic Cushion® can only be used in the frog area when combined with horseshoes that have an open sole or with Mesh.
- SHUDIM A25 and A35 can, according to glue-u, be used in combination with a pad or applied partially with horseshoes that have a bar. A partial Mesh insert can provide additional support and help keep the packing material in place. If the entire sole area is to be filled with packing material, stable support from a close-meshed pad or a closed sole is required.
- We have already received positive feedback from customers who have used SHUDIM AIR and Super Soft with our grid sole horseshoes. However, due to the soft consistency of these materials, glue-u ideally recommends using them with a completely closed sole area.
- SHUSIL is a silicone pour-in hoof packing material that does not adhere to the hoof. It therefore requires a stable structure and secure retention within the horseshoe. If the grid structure is too open or flexible, there is a risk that the material will gradually be pulled out. However, we have had good results so far with our stable, close-meshed grid sole.
- SHUGUARD is a special version of the urethane hoof packing material SHUPACK, developed to provide temporary additional protection for barefoot horses. Thanks to its excellent adhesion to the hoof, it is generally suitable for all the horseshoe and pad combinations mentioned above.

Regardless of which hoof packing or hoof repair material you use, it is important to ensure that no packing or repair material can spread sideways into the area of the glue tabs or cast bandage when applying glue-on or cast shoes .
