glue-u SHUDIM Shock-Absorbing, Protecting Impression Material
From purely shock-absorbing and protective effects to orthopedic/therapeutic measures; the reasons for using an impression material are diverse.
Depending on the reason why the application of an impression material is necessary, there are various materials and hardness levels to choose from. The glue-u range includes urethane , silicone , and kneadable impression material, all available in different hardness levels. It is difficult to determine which impression material is right for your client’s horse from a distance. As a farrier or hoof care specialist, you know best what the right choice is.
One option is SHUDIM. This impression material can be mixed by hand and provides light shock absorption and protection. It is easy to mix and shape by hand and can even be cut.
What we particularly like about the SHUDIM impression material is that it is a non-irritating product that contains neither acids nor chemicals . According to glue-u, SHUDIM is therefore also suitable for wound treatment.
glue-u SHUDIM Impression Material - An Overview of the Variants
SHUDIM is produced by glue-u in two sizes: the convenient "small" variant of 660 g and the larger
2.5 kg bucket. Each size comes with two containers.
To mix the impression material take ½ part A and
½ part B.
The color indicates the hardness level at glue-u; similar to our composite horseshoes, you can tell whether it's a slightly harder or softer variant by its color.
There are different shore hardness levels for glue-u SHUDIM:
- SHUDIM Ultra Light AIR has a hardness level of A20. It is an exceptionally lightweight impression material , weighing about 35% less than other comparable products currently available. The SHUDIM Air is beige. Since it is very soft, it is only possile to fill complete soles.
- SHUDIM Super Soft has a hardness level of A15 and comes in blue. Like the AIR, the SHUDIM Super Soft can only be used to fill complete soles.
- SHUDIM Soft is a pink impression material with a hardness level of A25 and is the best seller in this range. It can be used in case of a horseshoe with an open or closed sole area. You can also apply it in combination with a Heart or Straight Bar shoe for shock absorption in the frog area, f.ex.
- SHUDIM Medium is green and has a hardness level of A35, making it currently the hardest variant within this line of impression material. When mixed, it produces a relatively firm end product that can be combined with all types of horseshoes and / or pads.

Applying glue-u SHUDIM
For SHUDIM Super Soft, Soft, and Medium, mix the required amount of impression material by taking the same quantity from both containers.
Here’s a tip from glue-u:
Please use one clean hand for each container to prevent contamination. It is also essential to avoid
letting the white mixture enter the colored container. The easiest method is to use the right hand
for one component and the left hand for the other one.
Knead the padding material for about 4 minutes until it reaches a smooth, soft consistency. Be mindful of the curing time, which is approximately 4 to 5 minutes. If the material is pre-warmed, the curing process is faster, taking around 2 to 3 minutes.
SHUDIM accepts almost any granulate, and according to the glue-u FAQs, it is generally possible to incorporate certain medications as well.

Peculiarity of the SHUDIM Ultra Light Air Impression Material
Unlike the other versions, the SHUDIM Ultra Light Air comes with a container of base material and a separate hardener in a tube. According to the glue-u application video, you should mix the required amount of base material with a small amount of hardener. The mixing ratio is about 1:20.
Impression Material in Combination with Glue-On Horseshoes
If you plan to glue-on the horseshoe, ensure that no impression material seeps out towards the glue-on tabs. This could compromise the stability of the adhesive bond.
