The eXcel Legend - Our Number One
Undisputed at the top of our customers' favorites is the Heller eXcel Legend. The eXcel Legend features a coarse side and a Multiglide side. For many farriers, it is the first choice when it comes to an efficient hoof rasp for 'daily business'.
With a width of 50mm, the eXcel Legend provides a larger working surface, allowing for highly efficient work with less effort, particularly for barefoot hoof care. Mustad suggests that working with this rasp may be more effective if used at a slightly steeper angle.

The Heller Legend 14" Rasp
The Heller Legend hoof rasp stands out for its sharpness and durability. It is particularly well-suited for working on softer hooves.
According to Mustad, this rasp is less likely to clog under wet or damp conditions compared to other rasps. This makes it an excellent choice for use in wet weather, including during the winter months.

The Heller Black Legend 14" Rasp
The standout feature of the Black Legend is its black coating, which provides enhanced rust protection. According to Mustad, the Black Legend is particularly suited for soft, damp horn material. Similar to the Legend rasp, it is less likely to clog in wet weather. However, this rasp is not ideal for dry hooves.

The eXcel Original - An All-Purpose Rasp
According to Mustad, the eXcel Original delivers maximum efficiency with minimal effort. It's no surprise that many of our customers prefer this rasp. The eXcel Original hoof rasp features 711 teeth, a width of 50mm, and is generally suitable for all hoof conditions.
With its 50mm width, the eXcel Original offers a larger working surface, allowing for highly efficient hoof trimming with less effort, especially for barefoot hoof care under various conditions. Mustad recommends, as with the eXcel Legend, using this rasp at a slightly steeper angle than a standard rasp for optimal results.

The Heller Black Master
The teeth of the Heller Black Master are arranged in a tighter pattern across the 40mm surface of the rasp, making trimming easier. This design makes the Black Master ideal for hard hooves and dry weather conditions.
Please take note of Mustad's additional guidelines when working with the Black Master:
→ When working on the hoof’s hind wall, keep in mind that the Black Master removes a significant
amount of hoof material due to the size of its teeth.
→ The Black Master may leave marks on the hoof wall. Mustad recommends using the Pro Finish rasp
afterward to smooth out the surface if needed.

Heller Pro Finish
Last but not least, we present the Pro Finish. As the name suggests, the Pro Finish was specifically designed for finishing work. It pairs well with the eXcel Original, Red Tang, and Legend rasps. The Pro Finish is intended as an additional tool, not for everyday trimming, but to perfect your work with a smooth, polished finish.

Ensure you use appropriate personal protective equipment and check its condition for integrity before each use. Wear protective gloves to prevent cuts and safety glasses to protect against potential splinters.
Rasping generates fine particles of horn or metal from the rasp, which can be inhaled. This can irritate the respiratory system and potentially cause respiratory illnesses with prolonged exposure.
Depending on the material and manufacturing process of the rasp, additional health risks may be present. Some manufacturers include relevant warnings and safety instructions on their packaging. When rasping a hoof, that was previously shod with a glue-on shoe, consider that particles from adhesive residues may also be released.
