product description

KERALIT® Strahl-Liquide (Frog Liquid) - Care and Regeneration of Damaged Frog Horn

KERALIT® Strahl-Liquide (Frog Liquid) is a liquid, well-adhering frog care solution specifically designed for problematic areas of the frog and the white line. It helps counteract horn decomposition processes.

Application Areas for KERALIT® Frog Care Liquid

The active ingredients in KERALIT® Frog Liquid work by tanning the uppermost damaged horn layer, altering the molecular structure of the horn. This process deprives harmful microorganisms of their habitat. Additionally, detrimental factors such as ammonia from stable bedding can be neutralized, and microorganisms primarily responsible for horn decomposition are kept at bay.

According to KERALIT®, after just 3-4 days of treatment with the frog care solution, the frog horn becomes firmer, and the frog clefts begin to dry out.

KERALIT® Frog Liquid Can be Used in the Following Situations and for the Following Purposes:

  • thrush
  • softened, foul-smelling central grooves and lateral sulci
  • care and regeneration of damaged, decomposed horn
  • in case of horn decompositions in the frog clefts and in order to threat thrush, KERALIT® Frog Liquid can also be used in combination with KERALIT® Undercover
KERALIT® Frog Liquid and KERALIT® Undercover are positioned side by side.

Application and Safety Instructions for Using KERALIT® Frog Liquid

KERALIT® Strahl-Liquide may cause skin irritation. Use protective gloves and eye protection. Wash hands thoroughly after use. May irritate the respiratory tract. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid inhalation of vapors and aerosols. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse with plenty of water. If skin or eye irritation occurs, consult a doctor. Hazard-determining component of the label: glutardialdehyde . Further details can be found on the manufacturer's website.

Applying KERALIT® Strahl-Liquide

The frog clefts should be cleaned thoroughly but should remain dry. To do this, it is advisable to place a small swab over a blunt wooden mouth spatula and wipe the frog clefts several times. When cleaning, remember to keep changing the swabs or cloths used.

Once the areas to be treated have been cleaned, apply a few drops of the frog care solution to the frog clefts. You can carefully widen the frog furrows, e.g. with a spatula, to ensure that the frog solution can also flow into the lowest areas.

The horse should remain in a dry place for 15 to 20 minutes after application of the frog care solution.

In acute cases, the frog care liquid should be applied once a day for approx. 5-7 days. This usually results in an initial improvement in the situation and the treatment can then be carried out every other day. As a preventative measure, weekly application of the frog liquid is usually sufficient.

Whether you are addressing acute thrush or implementing preventive measures, it is crucial to maintain excellent stable hygiene and regularly clean the frog clefts and sole. In acute cases, it is vital not only to treat the hoof but also to identify and resolve the underlying cause of the thrush. Even the most advanced hoof care products will only provide temporary relief if the underlying cause of the thrush is not addressed.

The major advantage of KERALIT® Frog Liquid is its ability to penetrate deeply into the frog clefts and any damaged horn tissue. According to the manufacturer, simply applying the solution to the horn is sufficient to achieve its full effectiveness.

Please be aware that there are limitations to the use of frog liquid and all hoof care products: at a certain point, it is essential to consult a veterinarian.

Composite hoof shoes modified for the treatment of thrush in the frog area

Applying KERALIT® Frog Liquid on Shod Hooves

Treating the frog of a horse with traditional steel shoes is generally straightforward, provided the shoe is not a Heart-Bar or Straight-Bar type. However, with our composite shoes featuring an integrated frog support, treating the affected areas can be somewhat more challenging.

With our composite shoes featuring an integrated synthetic bar (frog support) treating the affected areas can sometimes be more challenging. Therefore, we recommend modifying the horseshoe in cases of acute thrush (or if your horse has had thrush frequently in the past). The extent of the modification should be based on the severity of the situation. You can either remove a small triangular section or the entire synthetic bar. For more details, please refer to the FAQ → Adjustment.

When using KERALIT® Strahl-Liquide when your horse is being shod with our horseshoes, please follow our safety instructions.

KERALIT® Frog Care Liquid and Glue-on Horseshoes

If you need to apply the frog liquid before gluing, be sure that no liduid comes into contact with the area where the glue-on tabs will be glued onto the hoof.

When the glue-on shoe is correctly applied and the adhesive is fully cured, there should generally be no issues. However, we recommend that, regardless of the hoof care product used, you avoid getting any products in direct contact with the adhesive areaon the hoof.
