product description

Closing Plugs - Seal and Protect the Threaded Holes in Horseshoes

We offer various horseshoe models with threaded holes for stud application. These models can be devided in two categories - those with threaded holes fixated inside the synthethic material and those where the stud holes are integrated inside the metal core. All models with stud holes securely anchored in the metal core are suitable for regular stud changes. The models in which the threaded insert is fixed in plastic are not suitable for regular stud changes.

However, for all threaded horseshoes, it is essential to seal the stud holes with a placeholder (a so-called closure plug) during times without studs. This is done to protect the threaded hole from excessive dirt. This helps to maintain the stability of the shoe in the area of the threaded inserts to prevent unwanted pressure on the hoof.

Your Selection of Closing Plugs at a Glance

For those familiar with our company history, it is known that Hubert Frank started with FRANK'S studs right from the beginning. Our closure plugs also date back to that time; therefore, they are suitable for use in conventional steel horseshoes as well. The table provides details on the compatible closure plugs for steel shoes and composite shoes, in the latter case specifying the type of threaded inserts, whether fixated in synthetic material or a metal core.

Application Information: Sealing Stud Holes with Closure Plugs – Video

The primary advantage of plastic closing plugs lies in their easy handling. However, the use of the metal threaded plug is quickly accomplished with a bit of craftsmanship. Take a moment to watch our video for a demonstration.

The horse owner / rider is responsible for regularly inspecting the stud holes and ensuring that the closing plugs are correctly positioned and intact.

Tips and Tricks for Using Closure Plugs for Steel Shoes and Composite Horseshoes

As the closure plugs were originally developed for the stud holes in steel horseshoes, we would like to take a moment to briefly introduce the additional accessories for steel shoes available in our product range:

Beside a steel horseshoe, there are traction studs on a wooden floor. The horseshoe has two threaded holes, and one already has a drive-in stud mounted

Speedies – Drive-in Studs for Steel Shoes

Also originating from our early days are the still-popular 'Speedies' – our drive-in studs for horseshoes. The Speedies are available in three different heights: 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm.

Shock-Absorbing Protective Insole with Integrated Frog Support for Steel Shoes

The so-called Protective Insoles stand out with our well-known integrated debris guard, functioning similar to the well-known Snowgrip®, and also feature an integrated frog support.

The model 'KC' shown in the photo is suitable for Kerkhaert Comfort shoes.
