Strahlfoili – for a Healthier Hoof
Strahlfoili and Duplo horseshoes? At first glance, they seem different – but both products share the same origin: developed by farriers, manufactured in Germany. Just like Hubert Frank at the start of developing composite horseshoes, Aletia Reilingh turned necessity into innovation and began creating her own solution to a problem she regularly encountered.In her case, the issue was the widespread occurrence of thrush among her clients’ horses, along with general challenges caused by bacteria. She tried many approaches but was never fully satisfied with the results. Eventually, Aletia Reilingh, as she puts it, ‘took matters into her own hands’ and conducted her own research. Her clients’ horses became happy test subjects – at the next appointment, the thrush was often gone and the hooves were growing back healthy.
After more than two years of testing, the decision was made to bring Strahlfoili to market, allowing other horses to benefit from its highly effective, natural ingredients. We are happy to support this decision and include Strahlfoili in our product range.

Application Areas for Strahlfoili
Strahlfoili is highly versatile – it can be used on both barefoot horses and shod horses, whether the hoof protection is nailed or glued, and also in combination with padding material. It has been tested and does not react with padding or with polyurethanes from well-known manufacturers. It can also be used on horses kept in open stabling systems.
A quick note from our side: If you're using a glued horseshoe, make sure that Strahlfoili does not spread toward the glue tabs or come into contact with the future glue surface on the hoof.

Strahlfoili in the Daily Life of a Horse Owner
Daily Treatment of Thrush – as an Intensive Cure and for Prevention and Hoof Care
In cases of acute thrush, it is recommended to apply Strahlfoili daily during the first ten days of treatment. As a horse owner, you should see visible improvement during this phase, as Strahlfoili creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria in the early days and thereby eliminates them. Still, it makes sense not to stop the treatment immediately after the thrush subsides – especially for horses that are prone to recurring infections.
Aletia Reilingh recommends continuing to apply Strahlfoili about two to three times per week to create a barrier against moisture, bacteria, and ammonia, and to support healthy hoof growth.
Here's another tip for you or your farrier: If you're treating a hoof affected by thrush that is fitted with synthetic horseshoes, it may be helpful to modify the synthetic bar of the horseshoe accordingly. Protecting Nailing Slots and Hoof Integrity
Maintaining hoof quality around the nailing slots can become a real challenge, especially with frequent washing or in wet conditions. A light daily application of Strahlfoili can help protect this area of the hoof and support better structural integrity.
Support for barefoot horses
Depending on hoof quality, gravel or coarse sand can cause damage to the hoof wall, leading to small cracks. In these cases, it is recommended to brush the hooves, remove any foreign objects (stones, gravel, etc.), and apply Strahlfoili directly to the cracks and openings in the hoof. Thanks to its strong adhesion, Strahlfoili can help prevent debris from re-entering and support healthy hoof regrowth.

Strahlfoili is not intended for internal use – it is designed for external, surface application on the sole, frog , and hoof cracks. Strahlfoili is not a prescription product and can be used by horse owners, farriers and hoof-care specialists alike. According to the manufacturer, no additional safety instructions are necessary when handling Strahlfoili. Application Instructions
Strahlfoili stands out for its simple use on the horse's hoof: pick out the hooves, brush thoroughly, apply generously to the desired areas – and that's it! The hoof can be placed down immediately after application.
