product description

blueline® evo! – the Lightweight, Shock-Absorbing, Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe

The brand Wolf Busch® is very well known among our customers – especially for the popular adhesive tabs. The person behind the brand, Wolfgang Busch, is also familiar to many. We have a long-standing, trusting partnership with Wolfgang Busch, which has led, among other things, to the development of our open-toed horseshoes that have already made life easier for many horses.

With blueline®, Wolfgang launched another brand that is not yet widely known – but we are convinced: that will soon change. At the beginning of the blueline® product line stood the weld-on clips. Some time ago, Wolfgang expanded the product range to include the blueline® evo! Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe.

The Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe combines a shock absorbing , slghtly softer outer shell with a harder core. Unlike the Duplo, however, this core is also made of urethane material (TPU) and not metal. As a result, the evo! is lighter and more flexible, while still offering additional stability compared to single-material urethane horseshoes without a harder core. Thanks to this combination of two TPU components with different hardness levels, the blueline® evo! can be both glued and nailed – offering a wide range of possible applications!

The blueline® evo! is currently still being produced using 3D printing and then undergoes a post-processing step that cross-links the two urethane materials for increased strength – so you don’t have to compromise on grip or durability! However, some sizes may be temporarily out of stock. No worries – Wolfgang prints new ones regularly. Feel free to use our 'back-in-stock notification' service so we can inform you as soon as your desired size becomes available again.

The blueline® evo! Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe in Detail

The two components of the blueline® evo! are completely fused together during production – forming a solid bond. So even if the core becomes exposed for any reason, it’s not a problem at all.

The blueline® evo! provides increased slip resistance thanks to the material used and the integrated traction profile. If needed, Spikes can be added at any time for extra grip.

The nailing slots are covered with a fine membrane. This ultra-thin layer can easily be pierced with the tip of a hoof nail – but it prevents dirt or debris from entering if the nailing slots are not used.

Like our own horseshoe model, the blueline® evo! also features integrated Frog support . To avoid pressure on the tip of the frog, the heart-shaped bar is made of the softer urethane material toward the front.

Thanks to its more flexible plastic compound, the ring-shaped core of the blueline® evo! does not restrict heel movement as much as a rigid, metal ring core would.

In the background: a hoof standing on its toe, fitted with a glued-on evo! featuring a perforated plate. The padding material has not yet been filled in.

The blueline® evo! horseshoes are available in three shapes and two variants. You can choose between an open Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe with integrated protective lip or a perforated sole area.

General Application and Safety Instructions

As this is a urethane-based product and its handling and processing are similar to our own, please follow our safety instructions for Duplo products when working with the blueline® evo! and wear the required protective equipment. Wolfgang Busch also emphasizes that trimming and shoeing should only be carried out by trained professionals, and that personal protective equipment is mandatory when working with products that are made of TPU.

blueline® evo! vs. Duplo – Differences and Similarities

In principle, the evo! can be processed in the same way as a Duplo – with a few important exceptions. Therefore, please refer to our general instructions for gluing and shoeing while taking the following aspects into account:

  • Since the blueline® evo! does not contain a metal core, it cannot be shaped like a traditional steel shoe. Adjustments using a forging hammer or vice are therefore not possible. The shoe is fitted solely by grinding or by welding on elements such as color strips or Extensions – both products from our own range are compatible with the blueline® evo!.
  • Using the blueline® evo! in combination with our cast hooks is generally possible. However, it is necessary to appropriately modify the area around the nailing slots.
  • Duplo offers two hardness levels – the harder Extra version and the softer Standard version. The material used for the urethane cover of the blueline® evo! falls roughly between these two levels.
  • And last but not least, a small but meaningful difference: while Duplo sizes increase in 4 mm steps, the blueline® evo! features a sizing interval of 5 mm!

Glue-on Application

For glued applications, we recommend the Wolf Busch® adhesive tab. No matter which version you choose, all are compatible with the blueline® evo!. Please select the tab size to match the size of the Horseshoe.

Depending on the variant used, it may be necessary to adjust the temperature of the hot-air gun and the speed accordingly.

If you intend to use the blueline® evo! as a glue-on horseshoe, you can even grind into the urethane core itself to optimally adapt the fit to the individual horse’s hoof.

Nailed Application

For nailing the blueline® evo!, E-Slim horseshoe nails from size 105mm upwards are particularly suitable, or M40 nails for the smallest sizes. At this point, we’d also like to share a general recommendation from Wolfgang Busch — with the important note that this suggestion alone should not determine your final nail selection.

If you intend to nail on the blueline® evo!, it’s important not to grind into the blue core in the area around the nailing slots — this is the only way to ensure the nails are properly anchored within the core material. The protective membrane covering the nail holes can easily be pierced with the nail tip.

The blueline® evo! currently does not feature knob arrays , thus for nailed applications, we recommend using weld-on clips. Be sure to choose the correct clip size based on the corresponding horseshoe size.

The Smart Combination

The blueline® evo! Horseshoe is designed for versatile use. For example, on hooves that are narrower on one side and wider on the other, it's possible to glue one side and nail the other. Always decide on-site what’s best for each individual hoof.

blueline® Weld-on Clips

Weld-on clips are available in various sizes and can be attached to the blueline® evo! — and of course also to the Duplo — wherever needed. They can be used either as side clips or toe clips. Additionally, for atoe dragger , it may be helpful to use a slightly larger weld-on clip and weld it onto the toe area of the shoe to prevent the hoof from wearing through.

To make positioning easier, Wolfgang Busch has integrated small welding aids into the weld-on clips. If you plan to place a tab directly next to the clip, you can remove these welding aids before welding — using leather shears or hoof nippers, for example. Of course, it’s also possible to grind them off after welding.

If the clip is meant to be partially embedded into the hoof wall, the horseshoe can be notched at the appropriate point — for instance, using hoof nippers, an angle grinder, or a belt sander.

In principle, weld-on clips can be used with any horseshoe that has a urethane shell. But be aware: if anothercomposite horseshoes exposes a metal core or a plastic core that is not weldable, a secure weld at that location is no longer possible. It is therefore essential to ensure that the plastic coating is intact. With the blueline® evo!, this is not an issue — both the outer shell and the core can be welded to the clips without any problems.

Summer and Winter Variants

Choose the appropriate weld-on clip based on the horseshoe size, the intended application, and the ambient temperature during welding. For temperatures below 10°C (50°F), we recommend using the winter variant; for temperatures above that, the summer variant is suitable.

Welding on the Clips – Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Gently preheat both the clip and the horseshoe at the welding area.
  2. Ensure that the entire clip is warm and slightly pliable so it can conform to the curvature of the horseshoe. For this reason, using our welding device is unfortunately not possible.
  3. Bring both welding surfaces — on the horseshoe and the clip — to welding temperature and begin the welding process.
  4. Allow the weld seam to cool completely. Do not quench with cold water, as this can make the material brittle!
  5. Reheat the clip slightly above the welded joint to adjust the angle to the hoof.

Can the blueline® evo! be reset?

Resetting is not recommended if the Dual-Material Urethane Horseshoe shows significant, uneven wear or — in the case of a nailed application — if the nail heads would protrude. However, if the blue urethane core is visible, this does not affect the general possibility of resetting the horseshoe.

As with any horseshoe, the final decision lies with the hoof care professional on-site. When in doubt, it’s always better to choose a new horseshoe.
